University of Minnesota Hires Populous for Athletic Master Plan

October 3, 2012

The University of Minnesota announced Populous sports architects will develop an athletics department master plan for the University that will impact each of their athletics programs. The master plan will provide the athletics department with an outline for the next five to 15 years that will help prioritize development needs.

The University of Minnesota’s Athletic Master Plan will encompass each aspect of the master plan process, including programming, facility evaluations, conceptual designs and architectural renderings. Populous will assess and benchmark the overall condition of each existing athletic facility to assist the University in planning for necessary upgrades and improvements. The athletic master plan is expected to be complete by the spring of 2013.

“The master plan will serve as an important and valuable tool for the athletic department and the University, providing them with a proper assessment of the facilities they currently have while imagining a plan that will ensure continued academic and athletic success for student athletes,” said Scott Radecic, Populous Senior Principal. “We’re looking forward to providing a plan that is reflective of the University’s trajectory and incorporates improvements that will aid the University of Minnesota in improving upon their current athletic facilities.”

Populous’ experience at University of Minnesota also includes the design of TCF Bank Stadium, which was completed in 2009.

“Populous is one of the major players in the athletic facilities design and planning industry and we are pleased to announce this new partnership,” said Norwood Teague, director of athletics at the University of Minnesota. “Their work on TCF Bank Stadium was outstanding and I look forward to working with them on producing this critical document.”
