Two Populous-Designed Facilities Named As Finalists for Sports Business Journal’s 2013 Facility of the Year
(April 8, 2013) — Two Populous-designed facilities, both of which opened in 2012, are among the five finalists for Sports Business Journal’s 2013 Facility of the Year. The award is given to new, renovated or established sports facilities in North America whose primary function is hosting and staging sporting events. Populous projects nominated for this year’s award include:
- Marlins Park, home of the Miami Marlins, has become a civic sculpture representative of Miami’s vibrant and colorful culture. Major League Baseball’s most modern ballpark expression to date, Marlins Park is also the first LEED Gold Certified retractable roof building in the world.
- Jet Blue Park, the new spring training home of the Boston Red Sox, has created a home away from home for the team. The design incorporates Fenway Park’s intimacy and iconic features including the Green Monster while paying homage to the team’s storied history.
Amon G. Carter Stadium at Texas Christian University, Barclays Center and Pauley Pavilion at UCLA were also named as award finalists. Learn more and view nominees in other categories here. Winners will be announced at the Sports Business Awards Ceremony on May 22, 2013 in New York City.
