Target Field Hosts MLB All Star Game

Populous-designed Target Field hosted the 2014 MLB All Star Game July 15^th to a sold out crowd and rave reviews. The ballpark was lauded as “beautiful” and “clearly part of the draw” to this year’s All Star Game by CBS Sports, with the Minneapolis Star-Tribune calling it a “gorgeous ballpark in the heart of a picturesque city” and an experience that prompts “Minnesotans to celebrate what downtown Minneapolis has become, and what Target Field, by consensus, is – one of the best ballparks anywhere.”

Located on a the smallest and most urban site in Major League Baseball, since opening in 2010, Target Field has helped revitalize downtown Minneapolis, extending the city’s footprint and reenergizing the North Loop. Target Plaza, directly outside the ballpark, has become a key attraction of the ballpark 365 days a year. Sports Illustrated noted that the plaza itself is an “all star,” functioning “as more than just a gathering place or a way for fans to get from public transit to their seats… but as a way to expand Target Field into its surrounding area and connect the stadium to its city.”   In addition to designing the ballpark, Populous’ event practice oversaw the planning of this year’s MLB All Star Game, assisting with game day operations, overlay and temporary spaces. Populous ballparks have hosted eight of the last 10 MLB All Star Games, and will host next year’s All-Star Game as well, at Great American Ball Park.
