D.C. United Announces Populous as Architect of New MLS Stadium

[Update: D.C. United announced in February 2017 the stadium would be named Audi Field.]

D.C. United has announced Populous as the design architect and architect of record for a new MLS Stadium in Southwest D.C.  The firm has a track record of designing some of the most notable atmospheres for soccer across the world, including Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas, Wembley Stadium and Emirates Stadium in London, England, Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa and the recently opened Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Monterrey, Mexico, among others.

 

 

The new stadium will create a unique atmosphere to watch the game. It will be both intimate and intimidating, putting fans close to the action and creating a home field advantage. An interactive plaza will link to ancillary development that functions as a gathering place for fans and the community 365 days a year. The stadium will also be eco-friendly and provide connectivity to public transit, including the Metro, Bike Share and a circulator.
