Populous Talks Venue of the Future at CES

January 11, 2017

For its 50th anniversary conference, the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) invited Populous to take part in a discussion about the venue of the future. CES is an annual event hosted in Las Vegas which brings together innovators and highlights emerging technologies from across the globe to share and discuss the latest and greatest. Populous Americas Managing Director Earl Santee participated in the “Venue of the Future” panel as part of the Sports Business Innovation track to discuss what venues will look like 20-plus years from now.

Moderated by Chuck Salter of Fast Company, the panel covered everything from drones as a potential transportation method, to the increasing need and importance of connectivity.

“Venue Wi-Fi and DAS systems are getting stronger and charging stations are getting more frequent. It’s not a question of if connectivity is changing the fan experience but rather how are designers and operators going to address the way it effects fan behavior and movement,” said Santee. “It used to be social media lounges, now entire facilities are social media hubs. Adaptability is paramount for success.”

Populous Senior Principal Bruce Miller will further explore the future of stadium design at the Stadium Managers Association 2017 Annual Seminar on Wednesday, February 8, at 10:45 a.m. PST.
