Charlie is a Senior Associate and Project Architect / Project Manager at Populous. He is directly involved in the programming, planning, design, and development of equestrian and livestock projects undertaken by the firm. His focus is on master planning and design of both permanent and temporary venues including multi-purpose expo buildings, indoor and outdoor event arenas, and barns. Charlie has fully invested his career in the creation of safe and functional venues that draw people and animals together for educational experiences and unforgettable entertainment. He understands the political, operational, and funding challenges faced by multi-purpose equestrian and livestock venues and the critical need to create event spaces with maximum flexibility of use.

He has played a key role in programming, master planning, design, facility evaluations, market research, and feasibility studies for more than 160 multi-purpose fairgrounds, expo, equestrian, and livestock projects around the globe. His clients include large venues such as Westworld of Scottsdale, Oklahoma City State Fair Park, the Calgary Stampede, and the Kentucky Horse Park as well as smaller venues including Mesa County Fairgrounds in Grand Junction Colorado, Grady County Fairgrounds in Chickasha Oklahoma, and the Mallet Event Center in Hockley County, Texas. His work has been featured in articles and publications including Cowboys and Indians, Metal Architecture, Texas Architect, Western Horseman, and the Equine Chronicle. He is the co-author of the Equestrian Arena Footing Manual and Equestrian Waste Management Manual, published by the League of Agriculture and Equestrian Centers in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Charlie is actively engaged in commercial farming and ranching activities with a family farming operation founded in 1870. Active engagement and a deep rooted heritage in the farming and ranching industry provide him valuable insight and sensitivity to the culture, design, and innovation of equestrian and livestock facilities.
