David Hines

  • Principal
  • London

David is a progressive design architect. Throughout his time studying at Cardiff University he developed a wide knowledge of theory, design and architecture. Having graduated as one of the top 100 students in the UK, he continued his professional development working for several of the world’s leading design firms in Amsterdam, London and Melbourne.

David joined Populous in 2005 and has been working primarily on the development of Aviva Stadium in Dublin, being involved with all aspects of the design – from early concept stage development right through to on-site construction and co-ordination. On the project David has been responsible for developing and managing the first parametrically defined building. Through the use of advanced computer software the building’s shape, cladding setout, seating bowl and steel work have all been executed in one harmonious modeled environment. He is now co-ordinating the works as a site architect and overseeing the fabrication and installation of all the steel work and cladding of the building.

Through the advanced computer development techniques that David has been implementing in architecture he has lectured on this topic at several Universities and conferences around the world, including Columbia University in New York, the Rhino – Shape to Fabrication conference and RIBA London events. He has also contributed towards features on the subject in architectural press and The Economist.

David is also involved in an ideas team for the ‘Stadium of the Future’ concepts. More recently he won a Populous Fellowship Award – with which he is undertaking a study in advanced concrete formwork and shuttering fabrication techniques.

Of late, David has been involved in strategic Masterplans and event designs for locations in Russia for the 2018 Worldcup, Doha for the 2022 Worldcup, a bid for hosting the Commonwealth Games in Srilanka 2018 and Sports Masterplans for Doha’s future sports vision.

David is currently the Bid Leader for the Populous London Office. Involved in competitions, new acquisitions and bid submissions.
