Susanna Hanninen

  • Senior Associate
  • London

Susanna studied architecture at the Vaasa Institute of Technology in Finland, taking an international course which led her to carry out exchange studies with Plymouth University in the UK. This inspired her to look for architectural work abroad after graduating, as well as undertaking further studies at the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture.

Susanna has 17 years’ experience working in the fields of aviation, rail, education and culture in the UK and abroad. In particular, she worked as a project leader on the new Louvre Abu Dhabi designed by Jean Nouvel, a new museum due to open to the public in 2015. Here she led coordination, development and production of the internal fit-out throughout, and supported the AJN team during the museography fit-out stage.

A doer rather than spectator, Susanna has a keen interest in the arts and enjoys creating and exploring new things. Prior to taking up her architectural studies, Susanna studied visual arts (drawing, painting, etching, photography, pottery and carpentry) at Portaanpään Kristillinen Kansanopisto, Finland.

Susanna joined Populous in autumn 2014 to lead the envelope design of a major new stadium. Susanna particularly enjoys Populous’ desire to find creative solutions to complex questions, with constant development and a commitment to the highest quality project delivery.

Perhaps as a result of growing up next to a sports field in Finland, Susanna enjoys a range of sports such as volleyball, a Finnish version of baseball and floorball. Since moving to the UK, Susanna has taken up fitness training, and you’ll find her at weight section of gym most weekdays.
