The idea used to be that we built our airports around cities – but today our airports are becoming cities themselves. Nowhere is this truer than in Atlanta, home of the world’s busiest passenger service airport.
Populous, in the role of architectural design subconsultant, assisted the Atlanta Regional Council (ARC) in identifying zones and corridor to activate synergistic airport cluster development opportunities at and adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, including but not limited to improved intermodal connectivity, enhanced airport convention and hospitality offerings, as well as amplifying the presence of existing near-airport tenants and brands, including Porsche, Chic-fil-a, Delta Airlines HQ as well as the State Farmers Market. For Phase 1 of the blueprint framework planning efforts, the team assisted the ARC in defining a development vision that includes measurable goals, awareness of best practices, SWOT analysis, site development and prioritization of projects, organizational structure recommendations and a quantifiable action plan. Planning efforts were completed in the Fall of 2015.
