Shell Energy Stadium

Shell Energy Stadium is the core of Houston’s East Downtown Redevelopment Plan. Home to the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash soccer clubs, we designed the venue to accommodate both MLS and FIFA standard international soccer, football, lacrosse, rugby and concerts.

Bringing our vast experience of European stadium design to bear, we created a first-of-its-kind soccer-specific stadium for the MLS market. The continuous exterior surface surrounding the stadium creates a dynamic sense of enclosure. The stadium’s checkered metal mesh exterior created a bold architectural statement in the Houston skyline, and its industrial materials pay tribute to the city’s heritage as an economic power.

Shell Energy Stadium had a massive influence on the MLS, inspiring other organizations to focus on designing intimate, soccer-specific stadiums in the heart of their downtowns. More locally, its contributed to the ongoing resurgence of Houston’s EaDo neighborhood.
