Populous have been involved in the Eagle Farm Racecourse for over 15 years, initially engaged to complete a series of Masterplans for Queensland’s best known racecourse. Since then, Populous has continued its involvement with revised Masterplans and procurement projects.
In 2014 Populous were appointed as design architects for the ($25M) Infield Redevelopment. This ground breaking project involving the relocation of the on-course training and stabling facilities to the infield is the first of its kind in the world setting a new standard for elite racecourses.
The relocation will free-up land owned by the Brisbane Racing Club enabling mixed-use and residential redevelopment, ensuring the long term financial sustainability of Club. The new infield will comprise 400 new stables and training facilities, new member’s carpark, large format videoboard, maintenance facilities, vehicular and pedestrian tunnels, and a multipurpose entry pavilion. Construction is due for completion 2016.
In 2015, Populous were engaged to undertake a detailed Masterplan for the Eagle Farm Grandstand Precinct. This Masterplan outlines a ‘road map’ for the precinct for the next 15 years and defines a staged implementation and priority of works. Importantly, the Masterplan identified an early works package that needed to be completed before racing returned to Eagle Farm in May 2016. Perhaps the most significant element of this early works package involves the creation of a large ‘People’s Plaza’ at the rear of the main heritage listed public grandstand.
