Situated in one of only two National Park Service-owned properties with airports, Provincetown Municipal Airport is in the permitting phases of a number of airport-wide improvements. Populous is the architectural design lead on a multi-disciplinary team working on the initial permitting phases on a new, high-performance passenger terminal facility. The terminal will honor the legacy of the historic Provincetown area with its iconic off-the-grid dune shacks and cottages, as well as meet the sustainability and performance objectives of the MassDOT and FAA.
The 10,000-square-feet replacement facility is intended to meet the ecologically-sensitive requirements of the Cape Cod Commission while effectively addressing the evolving air carrier and Department of Homeland Security operating requirements. Planning work is ongoing.
