Chadron State College to Develop New Rangeland Science Center and Rodeo Team

October 20, 2011

Established in 1953, the Chadron State College Rodeo team has posted both exceptional results and growth over the past decade.  This success has become a major draw for the college and also has created the need for a new rodeo complex.

Populous, in partnership with BVH Architects of Lincoln, has been commissioned to plan and design the new mini-campus, which also includes the College’s new Rangeland Science Center, located adjacent to the main campus in historic Chadron, Nebraska.  The rodeo facilities have been designed to include an indoor training and competition venue featuring a 120’x240’ arena floor, livestock demonstration areas and 800 seats in a climate-controlled environment.  The connected Rangeland Science Center includes plant and animal labs, classrooms, faculty offices and a unique archive facility which will house one of the nation’s largest herbarium collections.  The 40-acre campus eventually will be expanded to include additional rodeo arenas, event stabling to support rodeo team events and greenhouses to support the Rangeland Science curriculum.

This project is LEED Registered in accordance with the sustainability initiatives of the Nebraska State College System.
