Populous Selected for Pepsi Coliseum Renovation

January 9, 2012

Populous has been awarded a full design contract for the renovation of historic Pepsi Coliseum located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

The building first opened its doors in 1939 with a performance by ice skating legend Sonja Henie. Many famous music legends, including the Beatles, Nat “King” Cole and Neil Diamond have performed there.  It was also the original home of the Indiana Pacers from 1967-74.

Although Pepsi Coliseum is historically significant and structurally sound, the Populous design team will lend its expertise in both fairground and arena design to renovate the entire building’s interior. The renovation will bring the building up to modern day standards and provide new fan comforts for the Indiana State Fair and other events throughout the year. An all-new seating bowl and elevated public concourse will extend the life of this historic building for decades to come. The seating capacity will be 7,200 for hockey, 8,170 for end stage concerts and 9,200 for center stage concerts.

Pepsi Coliseum renovations are scheduled for completion in August, 2014, in time for the Indiana State Fair.
