Populous Selected for University of Arkansas’ North End Zone Study

February 4, 2013

The University of Arkansas has selected Populous, alongside local architecture firm Polk Stanley Wilcox and contractor Flintco, to complete a North End Zone study of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The study will explore a possible expansion to the existing facility and provide a cost and market analysis of the proposed work.

“The North End Zone Study will provide the University of Arkansas with more detailed, data driven design options and costing information that will help outline the future of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium,” said Ryan Sickman, Populous Associate Principal and Project Manager. “Razorback Stadium has become synonymous with the traditions and rich history of Arkansas football. We look forward to exploring the possibilities surrounding Razorback Stadium including necessary updates to amenities and seating that will further enhance the fan experience.”

The purpose of the analysis will be to examine the variables associated with an expansion such as premium seating, design construction, economic variables, and the demand for additional seating, all of which should be studied when considering the feasibility of a stadium expansion or renovation.

Populous has worked on football stadiums at 8 SEC schools, including current work at The University of Missouri. The firm also has a long history of work at the University of Arkansas, including completing their existing athletic master plan, which has served as the blueprint for the Arkansas athletic facilities. Other Populous projects currently underway at the university include a new, 80,000 square football center scheduled to open in the summer of 2013 and a new basketball practice facility that could break ground as early as 2013.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our relationship with Populous, who has played an important role in the development of athletic facilities on the University of Arkansas’ campus for more than a decade,” said Matt Trantham, Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Arkansas. “The North End Zone Study represents an important step for the university in evaluating the future potential of Razorback Stadium and continuing to implement our strategic approach to athletic facility planning.”

With offices around the globe, Populous is a global architecture firm that specializes in arenas, stadiums, ballparks and convention centers.
