The South-Western Project at Lord’s granted planning permission

November 2, 2015

On Tuesday 27th October, Westminster City Council granted planning permission to MCC for the South-Western Project (SWP), which includes redevelopment of the Tavern and Allen Stands.

The second phase of the exciting Lord’s Masterplan, which saw work on the new Warner Stand begin in September 2015, the SWP scheme features:

• A new single stand providing over 1000 additional seats, 18 hospitality boxes and 2 restaurants.
• A greatly enhanced public realm and landscape scheme, including a much-improved setting for the listed Grace Gates and a rejuvenated Harris Garden.
• Best practice standards of inclusive design; an important step in the process of making the Ground fully accessible.

Populous Senior Principal Philip Johnson said, “The SWP scheme unlocks the potential of this fantastic site at the ‘front door’ to Lord’s. Lord’s is internationally known as the finest cricket ground in the world; this project maintains these highest of standards and ensures that the ‘Home of Cricket’ will remain a world-class venue for future generations.”
