Ballpark Digest Names Spirit Communications Park 2016 Ballpark of the Year

July 26, 2016

Four months into its inaugural season, Spirit Communications Park has been named Ballpark of the Year by Ballpark Digest. The home of the South Atlantic League’s Columbia Fireflies has done more than re-invigorate a fan base in the South Carolina capital, the publication writes.

“Spirit Communications Park is not only our Ballpark of the Year, it’s also one of the best ballparks opened in the last decade,” said Ballpark Digest Publisher Kevin Reichard. “The ballpark is the centerpiece of serious economic development in Columbia, and an already-great fan experience should only improve once BullStreet development advances.”

The ballpark has been met with glowing reviews and record crowds since opening last April, resulting in a new single-season attendance record for the Fireflies little more than half way into its schedule of home games. It joins Petco Park and Southwest University Park as recent Populous-designed ballparks to receive the honor from Ballpark Digest.
