Doug Barraza

Senior Architect, Principal / Kansas City

Doug brings more than 25 years of collegiate sports experience to Populous, with the past 10 years focused specifically on the design of collegiate recreation and wellness center projects. As a principal and senior architect at Populous, Doug works with teams in Kansas City and Denver to expand relationships in the collegiate recreation market, develop new clients and advise universities on the project development process. He is well-versed in all phases of project management from master planning through design and construction.

Doug’s broad knowledge and experience working on projects across the collegiate athletic and recreation markets, combined with his organizational skills and passion for sports make Doug a valuable asset for ensuring project success. Prior to joining Populous, Doug served as a senior project manager and regional market leader working on stadia and recreation facilities for Auburn University, Louisiana State University, Utah State University, University of Missouri and the University of Wisconsin.

As a member of the National Intramural Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA) and Association of Outdoor Recreation (AORE), Doug understands the world of collegiate recreation and the recent expansion of this market to include an increased emphasis on program diversity, inclusion, wellness and sustainability among other initiatives. Doug’s background has honed his ability to manage multi-disciplined teams to create a shared vision that addresses the diverse interests of all parties involved, resulting in the creation of a dynamic environment for students and the greater campus community.
