Populous Selected by the Port of Los Angeles as Landscape Architects for San Pedro Town Square, Ports O’ Call Promenade

September 1, 2015

Populous has been selected and approved by the Los Angeles City Council to lead a multidisciplinary team to design a 1-acre town square and promenade in San Pedro for the Port of Los Angeles. The landscape designers involved, Todd Kohli and Alma Du Solier, will create a space envisioned to be the centerpiece of the L.A. Waterfront project. The town square, and 3,000 foot long section of the promenade is located at the foot of Sixth Street and stretches in front of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. The design will be a flexible space, adaptable for a variety of community events. It will also serve as a central connector to the rest of the promenade and help tell the story of the working waterfront with signage and graphic design, bringing the community from downtown to the waterfront. The project, with a construction budget of $20 million, will tentatively begin construction in the summer of 2017, opening in December of 2018.

Populous is also involved in the $350 million renovation of the Los Angeles Convention Center, currently underway.
