“The best stadia, to coin a phrase, ‘just get it right.’ And as a result of the ascendancy of sport, the best stadia are the true monuments of our time.” (Rod Sheard, 2005)

Quoted in her Masters thesis, this statement intrigued and inspired Bianca in her future career as an architect.

Bianca graduated with a degree in Architecture from the Vienna University of Technology. As well as this degree, she also holds a degree in Engineering. It was through these studies that she developed a keen interest in parametric design and its applications in day-to-day architecture.

Her academic interests, combined with her passion for football, led to a Master’s Degree and thesis in which she focused on both the theoretical and practical applications for parametric modelling in the design of new stadia. She was able to undertake a portion of this course at the prestigious Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura del Vallès (ETSAV) in Barcelona.

Prior to joining Populous in 2014, Bianca worked in an architectural practice in Vienna where she gained valuable experience on residential projects of various scales through all design stages.

Her career at Populous started on site, as part of the Olympic Stadium Transformation team, on which she looked after various packages, bringing them from advanced tender stage up to completion. Bianca’s role in the team also included MEP, structure and site coordination and supervision, as well as BIM.

More recently she led the envelope package of an innovative new 40,000 seat stadium, focusing on its use for a specific event and its ground-breaking future legacy. On this project she was also involved in the early massing, and subsequently in the structure and spatial coordination for the project.

With the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Bianca returned to site, where she is currently part of the core team responsible for superstructure and concrete works.

Besides her day to day project work, Bianca continues to explore the possibilities of parametric design and Building Information Modelling (BIM) as part of Populous’ global parametric design research group. At the moment she is working on the implementation of Grasshopper and especially DynamoBIM, developing workflows to allow a smooth integration of parametrically designed elements into the office’s BIM environment, both in the London office and globally.
