Sacramento Convention Center
The design for the Sacramento Convention Center draws upon strong influences in the seasonal geometries created by the floods and rivers. Situated in California’s central valley and caught between the Sierra Nevadas and the coast, Sacramento’s flat landscape is a blend of agriculture and aquaculture, a delicate balance of water and land that exposes both simple and organic geometries. An authentic Sacramento experience is an understanding of the bends of the Sacramento and American Rivers, the Delta breeze on your skin and an exploration of the diverse neighborhoods that constitute a culture that is uniquely Sacramento.
We’re currently working with the city of Sacramento on an expansion and renovation of their current facility. The expansion constitutes a 40,000-square-foot ballroom, an exhibition hall of more than 70,000 square feet and nearly 15,000 square feet of meeting space with two new lobbies. The building provides new administrative offices and kitchen space for city staff and convention employees. The expansion totally reimagines the ‘front door’ of the venue by situating its new west facing lobby on a 35,000-square-foot plaza. The new convention center will revitalize an underused part of downtown by opening a pedestrian route to midtown and the neighborhoods beyond.
