Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave

Populous partnered with the Government of Gujarat to develop the masterplan and concept design for the SVP Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad. This enclave is being considered as one of the potential event hubs for India’s bid for the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games and will host events during the 2030 Commonwealth Games.  Populous was also engaged by the Indian Government to advise on the masterplan and venue designs for Ahmedabad’s Commonwealth Games bid. 

Each of the five SVP venues will be capable of hosting multiple sports as they have been designed for maximum flexibility. The venues include: 

→ A new 50,000-seat football stadium 

→ A 10,000 to 15,000-seat tennis centre  

→ Two new multi-purpose arenas with seating capacity above 15,000, and  

→ A 12,000-seat aquatic centre. 

New public spaces and parklands have been designed to welcome visitors to the precinct, and new plazas include a central Ring of Unity, which pays respect to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. 

Outdoor sports fields and an artificial beach along the riverfront will help create vibrant community gathering places that will leave a legacy for the people of Ahmedabad.  

Inspired by its bid to host the 2036 Olympics, Ahmedabad’s Urban Development Authority has crafted a 20 year masterplan featuring strategically located sport venue clusters. The Vision and Masterplan of the SVP Sports Enclave is one of the keystone projects.
