In 2008, Populous was commissioned by the Club to undertake a facility master plan review for both the Club’s main racecourse facilities at Happy Valley and Sha Tin.
The 2008 study was initiated as part of the Club’s ongoing review of its facilities and broadening its racing appeal to a changing customer demographic in the region.
Populous investigated the various opportunities and constraints involved in converting the existing M1 Building at Happy Valley Racecourse into a dedicated facility for horse owners at the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Populous successfully delivered on a range of design initiatives that addressed the Club’s objective of revitalizing racing and generating renewed interest in both existing and new customers.
With the new design, the club has benefited from increased revenue generation, and minimized the operational costs and inefficiencies.
Hong Kong leads the way of bringing better racing experiences worldwide and transforming the sport into a vibrant social experience.
The venue achieved LEED Gold Certification in 2009 due to its sustainable appeal and has been hosting horse racing on a large scale since its revitalization.
