Tampa Bay Rays Release Renderings for New Populous-Designed Ballpark

July 20, 2018

Renderings were recently unveiled for the Tampa Bay Rays’ new Populous-designed $900 million ballpark. Replacing Tropicana Field, Rays Ballpark features a fully-enclosed translucent roof with sliding glass exterior walls, meant to bring the outside in to the ballpark. The unique roof with A/C capabilities will ensure both maximum fan comfort and game certainty.

“The objective was year-round usability and an unrivaled baseball experience in a ballpark that responds directly to Tampa Bay’s climate and culture,” said Pat Tangen, Principal at Populous. “With a translucent roof, patio and fountain seating options and retractable glass walls, the ballpark will offer Rays fans an intimate and social experience unlike any other in Major League Baseball.”

Rays Ballpark will boast the most intimate Major League Baseball ballpark with a 30,842 capacity, 28,216 fixed seats and would have the smallest upper deck in the League. The fan-friendly design concentrates all seats between the foul poles and includes a 360-degree concourse. Designed to accommodate a variety of fans, Rays Ballpark will offer 17 different unique and comfortable seating areas and is complemented by 21 distinct viewing platforms and social gathering spaces.

“It is not only a next generation, neighborhood ballpark, it is also a community asset that honors Ybor City’s rich baseball history and celebrates what’s best about the Tampa Bay region,” said Melanie Lenz, Chief Development Officer of the Tampa Bay Rays.
