Jonathan Mallie

As a member of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of Populous’ Americas practice, Jonathan leads a team of over 800 professionals across 13 offices in the U.S. and Canada, guiding them with a rare combination of visionary thinking, collaborative leadership, and a proven record of design innovation. He leads design and projects, and also plays a pivotal role in the firm’s growth strategy, working closely with his colleagues on Populous’ Global Holdings Board to advance the company’s vision and business objectives.
Throughout his career, Jonathan has met the challenges inherent in a wide range of project types worldwide, including sports and entertainment venues, commercial spaces and mixed-use districts. Under Jonathan’s guidance, all of these projects share a common thread: people-centric designs that are actively changing the way people gather, whether in daily life or for a memory-making experience.
He has partnered with marquee clients including the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Cavaliers, Madison Square Garden Companies, Forest City Ratner, Tishman Speyer, the Brooklyn Nets, Las Vegas Sands, the Governments of Kenya, and Google. He has also collaborated with innovators in the field of software, technology, and manufacturing, such as Dassault Systems, Boeing and Tesla.
Jonathan’s influence extends beyond practice into academia and thought leadership. He has taught and lectured about design at multiple universities, including Columbia University, the University of Florida, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Miami University of Ohio. Considered a thought leader in design, Jonathan has also contributed to numerous publications that focus on the architect’s ability to maintain design control through process innovation. And as a licensed architect in more than 50% of U.S. states, Jonathan has the credentials to not only lead an unmatched breadth of project work but also educate peers and young leaders on understanding state-specific industry requirements.
The caliber and impact of Jonathan’s work have earned him a variety of industry awards and recognitions, including as one of ENR’s Top 25 Newsmakers and a Power Player in Design and Development by the Sports Business Journal.
