Maria Knutsson-Hall

Maria is a Principal at Populous and EMEA Design Quality Lead. Since joining the practice in 2013, she has proved her design leadership on several large-scale sports and entertainment buildings. In 2019 she was awarded RIBA Journal’s Rising Star.

As Design Quality Lead, Maria oversees the design standards across all regional architectural projects. Her role supports our architectural teams through design reviews, design surgeries and educational sessions, as well as promoting equitable design that is accessible to all.

Her crowning achievement has been the design and delivery of the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, for which she was the lead designer, responsible for maintaining the highest standards of design from concept through to completion; a five year journey. In addition to this, she was also Project Architect for the multi-use Tottenham Experience building as part of the wider stadium development.

Having taught for several years at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Oxford Brookes University, Maria has a keen interest in the architectural education and the link between academia and professional success.
