Project Flight | Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion

Designed and delivered by Baukultur and Populous | Fentress, this multi-stage transformation will add new terminal space across the Northern and Southern Piers, integrating six new contact stands, three walk-out gates and upgraded facilities for both domestic and international travel.  

At the heart of it all, a revitalised check-in hall brings light, clarity and next-generation common-user systems into play, with new counters, bag drops and intuitive wayfinding designed to streamline passenger journeys from the kerb to the gate. 

The terminal is an integrated terminal serving both domestic and international passengers.  The expansion is architecturally calibrated to extend the building’s design language, balancing operational performance with the emotional rhythm of air travel.  

Spacious, light-filled departure lounges, upgraded boarding infrastructure and enhanced airfield views create a consistent and calming passenger experience.  Back-of-house operations are also being upgraded to support long-term commercial flexibility.  

With staged delivery ensuring continuity of service, Project Flight – Adelaide Airport Terminal Expansion highlights how smart design and collaboration between all stakeholders can enhance capacity and experience without compromising on efficiency or ambition. 

Populous has separately developed a comprehensive wayfinding strategy for Adelaide Airport that enhances the user journey from landside to airside.  This has involved introducing new signage and extending the use of effective existing airside wayfinding elements throughout the terminal.  

By unifying these into a cohesive signage family, we have created a consistent visual language that supports intuitive navigation through check-in, security, and onward to the gates.
