Estadio Banorte

For 2026, the stadium has been comprehensively modernized while preserving the iconic form that made it a landmark of world soccer. The iconic main structure has been being preserved and strengthened with reinforcement, with upgrades including a new fabric roof ring, improved sightlines for renovated premium areas, more comfortable individual seating, updated accessibility, and new hospitality, media and broadcast facilities designed to meet contemporary FIFA standards. Contributing to the tournament-focused redesign, Populous created new premium seating areas and lounges and a new central kitchen to serve those premium areas and new player and official lockers. The wider project also renews the stadium’s electrical, water, ventilation, vertical circulation and energy systems.

The intention was not to reinvent the spirit of Estadio Banorte, but to carefully prepare the stadium for a new era of spectators and international competition. New LED ribbon boards and scoreboards, upgraded circulation routes and reworked spectator areas improves the experience throughout the building, while the reconstructed pitch incorporates natural turf with advanced drainage and ventilation systems.

The balance between preservation and renewal is what makes the project so significant. Estadio Banorte remains instantly recognizable, but its latest transformation ensures that one of soccer’s most historic venues continues to serve the game at the highest level in 2026 and beyond
