Estadio BBVA

Take a seat in the north stand of Estadio BBVA and you’ll get a view unlike any other in sport. In front of you, a steep rake of seating plunges down to the soccer field, with thousands of fans intensifying the atmosphere within the bowl. Meanwhile, up above, framed by the sloping cantilevered roof, the majestic Cerro de la Silla Mountain looms silently. It’s a venue that challenges every preconception of what a modern soccer stadium should be.

Home to CF Monterrey Rayados and its passionate supporters, Populous designed Estadio BBVA as a profoundly fan-centric venue, prioritizing visibility of the pitch and comfort in the stands. Inspired by the city’s history of brewing and steel manufacturing, the stadium has a self-supported tri-podal structure clad in metallic armature and aluminum. Airflow comes in via ‘gills’ in the metal facade, ventilating the stadium and keeping spectators and players cool and comfortable. The cantilevered roof, which is a vast structure of 55 meters, also provides comfort and shade within the stadium. Its dramatic asymmetric sweeping form lowers to the south to provide those stunning views of the nearby mountain.

The steep stands inside sit right up against the field, ensuring every seat is the best in the house, while a wide range of seating options caters to a broad spectrum of audiences. This includes over 4,500 club seats and 324 suites, with more premium seating than any other stadium in Latin America.

Building on this, the stadium champions social integration, with open-access areas and inclusive spaces transforming it into a lively hub for the community outside of game days and weaving it into the social fabric of Monterrey.

The stadium has hosted the Final of the Concacaf Champions League twice, the Final of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship and is set to stage multiple matches of the FIFA World Cup in 2026. Outside of football, the stadium has been packed out for concerts.
