GIANTS Community Centre

Sydney, Australia
Opened in 2013
Architecture
The design aspiration for the GIANTS Community Centre was to produce a training and administration facility that strengthens the status and identity of the GIANTS Football Club and inspires players and staff.

The redevelopment of the high-performance training centre maintains and enhances the park setting of the site while positively contributing to the ongoing development of its location in the Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan and precinct.

The facility is a short distance from the club’s training oval and GIANTS Stadium. It rivals the elite training facilities of any sporting club in Australia and is also be used to provide educational and community programs for thousands of young people from Western Sydney.

It provides new and enhanced sport facilities to assist with AFL participation programs and increase the community’s connection with the GIANTS.

Aquatic and Recovery Centre

A more recent addition to the training facility is the aquatic and recovery centre, which opened in 2025, marking the completion of the first phase of the GIANTS’ Centre of Excellence project.

This state-of-the-art facility represents a major milestone in the evolution of the GIANTS’ elite sport training environment and is a significant investment in the future of high-performance sport and community engagement in Western Sydney.

Purpose-built as a cutting-edge recovery and performance hub, the aquatic facility has been carefully designed by Populous as architect, designer and lead consultant to meet the demands of modern elite sport.

It serves as a critical recovery space for the GIANTS’ three professional programs – AFL, AFLW, and GIANTS Netball – providing facilities for hydrotherapy, rehabilitation and year-round conditioning.

The facility includes a multi-level 25-meter pool with deeper lanes for swimming and shallow lanes for walking and recovery movement drills.  Eight meter long hot and cold pools and a sauna complement the facility that has a focus on health and wellness with neutral colours used for the interior and an abundance of natural light flowing in from the adjacent playing field.

The connection to the playing field was an important part of the design to ensure that those players who are recovering from injury are connected to the team and the broader playing area.
