Populous was selected by the Seoul Metropolitan Government as architect for the masterplan and concept design for the regeneration of the Seoul 1988 Olympics site. The 35-hectare site will be re-imagined into a world-leading destination for sport, conferences and entertainment named the Jamsil Sports MICE Complex.

Alongside the iconic Han River, the master plan for the precinct caters for both business and leisure by featuring large-scale convention and exhibition space including pre-function areas, meeting rooms, concert hall, commercial offerings and ballroom for events, plus sports facilities.

A boutique 11,000-seat sports and multi-purpose arena will offer flexibility in hosting a variety of events, live performances, e-sports and the adjacent 35,000 seat open air baseball park will host two local teams. In addition its sport and entertainment facilities the site also incorporates two separate hotels, commercial office tower; 123,000 gross sq. metres of retail space and a 3,000-seat indoor underground swimming pool.

Engrained into the development are sustainable design solutions introduced through energy efficiency systems such as; high performing green rooftops; biotope installations of living plants and animals; a solar screening device; restoration and preservation of the former site; and utilisation of existing facilities.

Construction of Jamsil Sports MICE Complex is expected to begin in the second half of 2023.
