Perth Park

The $217.5 million project will create a vibrant, multi-purpose destination delivering benefits for the local community and is expected to create more than $61 million in economic activity each year.  The precinct will be activated by a year-round calendar of community and commercial events, from large-scale festivals to intimate local functions. The precinct will include all ability indoor and outdoor spaces for community gathering and recreational sports. 

Positioned alongside Optus Stadium and the Swan River, the precinct will integrate new and existing infrastructure to create a connected, year-round events and recreation hub. Central to the design is a large-scale outdoor amphitheatre, accommodating up to 12,000 spectators, alongside a multi-use track capable of hosting major events, including an annual motorsport event, as well as full precinct events, criterium cycling and community recreational sport and parkland. 

The design prioritises flexibility, enabling the precinct to support a diverse program of live music, sport and cultural events, while remaining a precinct parkland accessible for everyday community use. Extensive landscape renewal and improved connectivity will enhance the parkland setting, reinforcing the site’s relationship to the river and surrounding precinct. 

Once complete, Perth Park will establish a new benchmark for integrated, multi-purpose event destinations in Australia, supporting economic growth, tourism and long-term community value. 

The permanent amphitheatre will enable an increase in the number of local events, intimate concerts and global music acts hosted in the State. The design will also allow for scalable capacity to cater for different audience sizes. 

Permanent back-of-house amenities for artists and event organisers will include dressing rooms, production spaces and storage. 

The venue will feature a variety of viewing options, with space for people to stand or sit at the front of the stage, and a grassed area suitable for standing or relaxing. Premium viewing areas will also be offered. 

A designated cycling training route of 845m, separated from vehicle traffic, has been designed in collaboration with key cycling stakeholders and in consideration of managing cyclist and pedestrian interfaces. 

In addition, an approximate 1.25km criterium cycling track will be enabled on the inner track for competitive cycling events. The training and competitive tracks could also be combined for an alternate event option. 

The inner track and surrounding roads will be constructed and/or upgraded to FIA Grade 3 standards, enabling the precinct to host an annual three-day motorsport street circuit event. Spanning approximately 3 kilometres, the circuit will feature 12 turns and a main straight anticipated to be capable of reaching top speeds of up to 230 kilometres per hour. 

The multi-use building will feature event, function and sporting facilities along with other public amenities that will support events and hospitality for the Amphitheatre and the broader precinct. The building will be designed to cater for an annual motorsport event and cycling events. 

The ground floor will be an adaptable event space providing direct access to the track and adjacent event overlay areas, transforming into pit facilities during the annual motorsport event. 

The building will also offer a range of event, function, and meeting spaces, with viewing opportunities overlooking the track, the amphitheatre and the city.  A public viewing platform is envisaged to be accessible for most of the year.  

The precinct has been designed to embrace multiple forms of transport access including a fully accessible pedestrian boulevard that will link the stadium station and precinct core.  

The project is being delivered by the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct  Alliance comprising Seymour Whyte, Civmec Construction & Engineering and Aurecon Australasia, with Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design and Wayfinding led by a design team from Populous, Architectus and Urbis
