Henry Coates
Henry is a registered Queensland architect with broad experience in educational, residential, industrial, commercial and sports architecture. His combined passion for sports and challenging design led him to join the Populous team in 2015. During his tenure at Populous, Henry has worked on several high-performance training facilities, sports masterplans and stadia projects. In 2017, he completed the design and oversaw the construction of the $60 million Rugby AU House in Sydney. The Centre of Excellence is the administration base for Rugby Australia and the primary training facility for the Australian Men’s and Women’s Sevens Teams. In partnership with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Rugby AU House is also home to the university’s Moore Park Sports Campus, researching the latest developments in sports science.
In 2018, Henry was part of the key team delivering the winning bid for the Kai Tak Sports Park Development and assisted in the construction of CommBank Stadium. In late 2018, he was appointed as the Project Architect of the Sydney Swans’ new $70 million High-Performance Training Facility at Moore Park. The recently completed project has seen the club expand their training and community engagement capabilities and brought a new home to the Swans AFL, AFLW, and Academy groups.
