Richard Breslin

Richard Breslin is a Senior Principal, Global Board Director and Managing Director for APAC at Populous. He has spent more than 25 years with the firm and has delivered some of the world’s most iconic stadiums, venues, events and precincts across the UK, Portugal, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong.

Richard specialises in leading large and complex projects with multiple stakeholders and a strong community focus. He has developed deep expertise in seating bowl geometry, fan experience and the integration of venues into the urban fabric. His foundational work on Stadium Australia and Wembley Stadium established his knowledge of stadium operations, planning, design and life safety, forming the basis of his career-long contribution to the evolution of contemporary sports architecture.

He has played leading roles in major public architecture projects including the Melbourne and Olympic Parks Redevelopment, Wembley Stadium, the London 2012 Olympic Master Plan, Eden Park in Auckland, ICC Sydney, Soccer City in Johannesburg and Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Sports Park. Each of these venues demonstrates his ability to coordinate complex design teams and balance project ambitions with stakeholder needs.

Most recently, Richard has overseen the AUD$6 billion Kai Tak Sports Park, a 28-hectare sports and entertainment precinct on the site of the former Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. The project features a 50,000-seat main stadium, a 10,000-seat arena, a 5,000-seat athletics venue and more than 14 hectares of public parkland, including Hong Kong’s largest playground and a vibrant cultural program. Designed to connect seamlessly with its surrounding neighbourhood, the precinct represents a new model for integrated sports and community infrastructure.
