2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic Named Sports Event of the Year at Sports Business Awards

The 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, designed  by Populous’ event group, was selected as the Sports Event of the Year at the Sports Business Awards. It became the first sports event to be recognized twice as the Event of the Year at the annual awards ceremony. The event was hosted at Michigan Stadium this year, before the largest ever crowd to gather for a hockey game – 105,491 spectators in total – with millions watching in the United States, Canada, and abroad. Populous played an integral role in event design, overlay planning, credentialing, operations planning, wayfinding, and event coordination. The firm has been involved with the NHL Winter Classic since the inaugural game January 1, 2008 in Buffalo, NY. Read more about the award here.
