Populous’ experience in all aspects of equine sport design is unparalleled internationally. The firm has conducted extensive world tours to study how racing is operated and administered in different parts of the world, and has compiled a wealth of data collected on the planning, construction and provision of race-track buildings and amenities. Populous has designed some of the most recognised racecourses and equestrian centres around the world, including Ascot Racecourse in England, Royal Selangor Racecourse and Hong Kong Jockey Club in Asia and the Breeders Cup in the US.
This year, Shaun Gallagher (Principal) and Bindi Perkins (Senior Associate) will be attending the Australian Racing Conference in Sydney 12 – 14 April.
Shaun has 20 years architectural experience, 10 years in sports architecture. He specialises in racecourse design, masterplanning and operational planning. He completed the masterplan of Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney and worked for some years on Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. Shaun was also responsible for initial concept work and design development of the Owners Facilities at Happy Valley Racecourse for the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Shaun liaised with our architectural partner in Hong Kong, local consultants and stakeholders for the project, which was successfully completed in 2006.
