As one of the host cities for the 1998 football World Cup, the City of Toulouse undertook a major renovation of its existing 38,000-seat stadium.Populous’ multi-disciplinary team was selected to provide full services through an international design competition. The work included replacement of an existing concrete roof structure with a new lightweight fully cantilevered fabric roof.
A new seating deck was created to incorporate 30,000 club seats, 20 VIP loges and a press box. The remaining areas of the existing stadium received upgrades and cosmetic improvements, to the lighting, advertising boards and giant screen system.
