Introducing Segra Stadium, Fayetteville’s New Anchor for Downtown Development

April 23, 2019

Professional baseball is back in Fayetteville, North Carolina with the opening of Segra Stadium. For fans in the community, it marks the return of Minor League Baseball for the first time in 18 years, but for the city of Fayetteville, the ballpark symbolizes something much bigger. Located at the west end of downtown, the $40 million, 4,750-seat ballpark represents a new vision for downtown Fayetteville. Recognized as a catalyst for the city and region’s economic growth and development, Segra Stadium is the anchor to a more than $100 million development revitalization to the downtown area, including the new Hyatt Place hotel, parking garage, office space and renovations to the historic Prince Charles residential building. The whole development is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020.

The ballpark, which debuted on April 18, is the new home to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, the Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, and connects to the heart of downtown and Festival Park through the new public plaza area. This location allows for the ballpark to be a premier mixed-use destination year-round for baseball, entertainment and city events in addition to serving as the new home to the Big South Baseball Tournament.

“Segra Stadium is beautiful,” said Jim Crane, owner of the Houston Astros. “We wanted all of our teams lined up in great facilities, great training centers and using the same technology all the way through the system and Fayetteville stepped up to deliver a great ballpark.”

Segra Stadium, inspired by the proximity to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, integrates a military design with red, black and grey color themes throughout the ballpark. The various seating options offer fans the opportunity to customize their gameday experience. The right field features picnic-style seating and the Healy’s Bar, a modern, outdoor bar atmosphere with tiered drink-rail seating. Directly adjacent to Healy’s Bar is an elevated landing deck which was designed with lounge seating and yard games to offer fans an open space to enjoy great sightlines to the action on the field. The left field kid’s zone, sloped grass seating area and tiered rocking chairs offer family-friendly amenities for gameday.

The ballpark also offers premium club experiences for an added element to gameday, spaces like the AEVEX Veteran’s Club, a high-end club option with views of the public plaza and field, opens up directly to the party deck, a covered outdoor area that is enjoyed on gameday as well as used for outside events like meetings, private parties and events. Segra Stadium truly offers an experience for everyone to enjoy while serving as something bigger for the city of Fayetteville.
