Mixed-Use Development Quarry Yards Announced for Atlanta

March 8, 2018

Urban Creek Partners announced plans for Quarry Yards, a new next-generation focused, mixed-use development project in Atlanta. The $400 million, 27-acre first phase of the development will be designed by Populous and HKS and is located south of the planned Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry near Atlanta’s main transportation network, the BeltLine.

Conceived as a technology and entertainment-focused campus, Quarry Yards’ direct connection to the Atlanta BeltLine will attract brands, companies and residents alike. The development will feature 575,000 square feet of office space, 850 residential units, a 300 room hotel and 75,000 square feet of retail and restaurants. This live-work-play model will act as a powerful catalyst for continued growth in West Midtown Atlanta.

Quarry Yards takes a progressive approach to transit access with the incorporation of a new trail, Proctor Creek Greenway, for running, biking and fitness, as well as a direct connection to the MARTA transit system and multiple access points to the Atlanta BeltLine. The development is among the largest, most wide-ranging urban redevelopment projects currently underway in the United States.

“Quarry Yards will be an exciting and innovative place to live, work and explore that truly sets a new paradigm of development in Atlanta,” said Brian Mirakian, Senior Principal at Populous. “Our goal from the beginning was to celebrate the amazing natural beauty of the Bellwood Quarry and Westside Park location while creating a vibrant community hub for generations to come together and enjoy.”

The project will tap into the industrial roots of the neighborhood, featuring an industrial-chic architecture utilizing brick, concrete, metal and glass. Steel shipping containers, stone foundations and metal roofs from old structures will provide a home for start-up businesses and restaurants.

When Quarry Yards opens in 2020, it will host a wide range of dining and lifestyle events from festivals and concerts to yoga in the park and more. The new mixed-use development will join other Populous-designed projects including SunTrust Park and the Battery Atlanta developed to elevate entertainment options for the Atlanta community.
