Geoffrey Ax

Principal, Senior Architect / New York

For over two decades, Geoffrey Ax has created a career in the aviation industry by understanding the diverse needs and desires of passengers. Geoffrey believes the joy of travel should be both the journey and the destination, turning airports into places people want to be, not have to be.

As the leader of Populous’ aviation practice in the Americas region, Geoffrey brings expertise in project planning with budgets exceeding $1 billion, alternate project delivery methods and strategic visioning. He has led the small- and large-scale design of terminals, operations, cargo facilities and more, including the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Los Angeles World Airports, and Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, Peru.

His thought leadership has taken him around the world to speak at various conferences and symposiums on the passenger journey, including Global Business Summit, Passenger Terminal Expo, and AAAE . Geoffrey also served as Chair for ACC Design Symposium focusing on airport innovations. His expertise has been featured in Airport World Magazine, Passenger Terminal Today and Airport Business.

Geoffrey continually pushes the industry to imagine what the future of aviation could look like, taking a hint from other venue types that encourage visitors to linger and savor the moments in-between. Every touchpoint from curb to gate matters when designing places where people love to be together. Through human-centered design, airlines and airport operators can change the traditional airport to better serve travelers of today and beyond.
