Matt joined Populous in 2017 as a graduate architect based in Brisbane. He shifted from an Institution and Education project portfolio focused on traditional project procurement and delivery.
Matt is interested in creating exciting environments which actively contribute to the enhancement of the user’s experience. This involves exploration of material composition which focuses on both the individual and collective experience of the architectural whole.
Upon starting at Populous, he worked immediately on the West Coast Eagles Training Facility in Perth, assisting in the completion of Contract Documentation for tender. During this time, Matt was able to assist in the completion of detailed model management and is supporting in the further development of model management strategies.
Matt has since worked as a member of the team on the National Speed Skating Oval in Beijing for the 2022 Winter Olympics. This project was undertaken in an intense Schematic Design format requiring self-directed focus as well as team organization and communication from Beijing. This process involved testing and resolution of both macro planning as well as detailed execution of façade design.
In working in the Education and Institution sector, Matt has gained extensive experience in the completion of Contract Administration. During this time, he was able to manage multiple projects and establish good relationships with both clients and contractors, ensuring timely and quality built results which achieve completion within budgetary constraints. Matt has been able to actively service projects during construction in remote locations whilst undertaking the design and documentation of additional projects. He is well versed in both team and autonomous function.
Matt has completed tutoring of Professional Practice at the University of Queensland and has also assisted in informal tutoring for design subjects. He is currently completing the architectural registration process, with the intention to continue his professional development as an architect.
