
Paul Henry

Paul Henry is a Senior Principal, Global Director and Co-Founder of Populous, based in Brisbane where the Populous Asia Pacific headquarters is located. An internationally recognised architect, he has more than 35 years of experience in the design and master planning of stadiums, racecourses and arenas, as well as the planning of Olympic Games.
Throughout his extensive career, Paul has served as Project Principal for some of the world’s most renowned venues. His international portfolio includes the Sydney Olympic Stadium, London Olympic Stadium, the city shaping Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong , world’s largest Cricket Stadium- Narendra Modi Stadium in India, Philippine Arena the world’s largest Arena, Beijing Winter Olympic Arena, and the Nanjing Youth Olympic Stadium and Arena, which received the IOC/IAKS Gold Medal for design. In Australia, his work includes Suncorp Stadium, Marvel Stadium, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) North Stand, Cbus Super Stadium, Brighton Homes Arena and People First Stadium. Paul Sits on the Populous Global Design review panel reviewing all global projects and as such he brings the latest international experience to projects.
Following the announcement of Brisbane to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Paul has been involved with various strategic planning stages and reviews, to support the government in preparing for the Games. He is passionate about the potential for the games to shape the future of cities. He has performed this role for a number of cities around the world.
Paul has made significant contributions to Queensland’s professional services sector. Under his leadership, Populous has been recognised multiple times as Queensland Exporter of the Year, and in 2019 won the prestigious Australian Exporter of the Year award, showcasing Queensland design capability on the global stage. He is also a sought-after speaker who has addressed the IOC in Lausanne, the World Sports Summit in Beijing and the Venue Management School, and he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Queensland and a member of the National Advisory Council of the Export Council of Australia. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
As a member of Populous’ global board, he continues to shape the future of international sports and entertainment civic architecture.
