Populous-designed Amway Center named Sports Facility of the Year

February 2, 2018

The Populous-designed Amway Center was named Sports Facility of the Year at Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal and SportsBusiness Daily’s fifth annual Sports Business Awards on May 23. This is the second year in a row for a Populous facility to have won Facility of the Year; the firm’s Target Field in Minneapolis won the award in 2011.

Nearly 750 attended the event, held at the New York Marriott Marquis at Times Square. The awards annually recognize excellence and outstanding achievement in the sports industry.

We are extremely honored and humbled that Amway Center has been named as the best sports facility in the nation for 2012,” said Orlando Magic Chief Executive Officer Alex Martins, who was on-hand to accept the award. “The judges have recognized that the facility has been designed and operated with the patron in mind first. We thank Street and Smith’s for this honor and congratulate all of the other very worthy finalists on the success of their facility.”

Amway Center competed against Sporting Park, another Populous project, in Kansas City, Kansas, the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona.
