Rethinking the Future honors projects that deal with contemporary global challenges and that bring the best of such projects into the light to inspire the next generation. The Philadelphia Fusion’s Fusion Arena, aiming to debut in 2021, won first place in the 2019 Global Architecture and Design Award’s Sports and Recreation Concept category. It will debut as the first new-construction, purpose-built esports venue in the Western Hemisphere.

Engineering News-Record (ENR) also recognized three Populous projects in its 2019 Regional Best Project awards in the Midwest and Mountain States regions. The annual ENR Regional Best Project awards honor the industry’s best projects and the companies that designed and built them. Winning in the sports and entertainment category of ENR Midwest category was Fiserv Forum, home to the Milwaukee Bucks, which opened in August 2018 and is the anchor to a 27-acre mixed-use development. Awarded the best project in the sports and entertainment category of ENR Mountain States was the Central Recreation Center, which made its debut in May of 2019 in Aurora, Colorado, featuring first-of-its-kind amenities like a wave pool and interactive slide in addition to a fully integrated art installation throughout the facility.

Wrigley Field, historic home to the Chicago Cubs, was also recognized with the ENR Midwest Best Renovation/Restoration award after the completion of its five-phase renovation project in April of 2019. Wrigley Field was also highlighted by ALSD in July with the 2019 Spotlight Awards in its New/Renovated Suites category and the Maker’s Mark Barrel Room, which won ALSD’s Sponsorship Activation award, for its integration of the historic brand within Wrigley Field’s club.
