February 12, 2013

Fast Company has named Populous one of the most innovative companies in architecture.  Finding itself in good company among some of the world’s finest architecture firms, Populous ranks number seven on the list.  This is the third year Populous has ranked among the world’s most innovative companies; In both 2009 and 2010, Populous was included on the world’s most innovative companies in sports list.

“The debut of the London Olympic Stadium, coupled with significant project openings like Marlins Park and BBVA Compass Stadium, have all helped to further establish Populous as a global leader in innovation in 2012,” explains Earl Santee, Senior Principal at Populous. “As a firm, we continue to push ourselves to explore how fans experience our buildings.”

This year, Populous was recognized for its sustainable innovation at the London 2012 Olympics. The firm’s commitment to sustainability and legacy, by doing away with the white elephants of Olympics past, signified a major innovation in Olympic stadium design. The facility was built to hold 80,000 during the games, but can be reduced to 25,000 for the post-game legacy, ensuring the stadium will remain a viable part of the city’s infrastructure for decades to come.

To create the Most Innovative Companies issue, Fast Company’s editorial team analyzed information on thousands of businesses across the globe. The March 2013 issue is on newsstands now and is available online at www.fastcompany.com/MIC.
