February 13, 2013

Populous has been selected, along with FSB Architects of Oklahoma City, to design the new Oklahoma State Fair multi-purpose exhibit hall. The $60 million project will include 225,000 net square feet of exhibition space.

“Oklahoma State Fair Park is one of the nation’s premier fairgrounds and we’re looking forward to continuing our work there,” said Charlie Smith, Senior Principal at Populous. “We will use our knowledge of Oklahoma State Fair Park and exposition centers across the globe to create the ideal multi-purpose exhibition space.”

In 2011, Populous completed the master plan for the Oklahoma State Fair Park and prior to that, Todd Gralla, Populous’ Director of Equestrian Services was involved with the design of a $120 million equestrian and livestock complex at the state fair. In addition, the firm is currently responsible for the design of a $4 million, covered arena adjacent to the livestock facility on the fairgrounds, which is set to begin construction in 2013.

Populous will be responsible for designing pre-function space, meeting rooms, a kitchen and a service docking area, in addition to the exhibit hall.  The project will be funded by the MAPS program, which has played an integral role in the development of the new Oklahoma City Convention Center, a project Populous is also designing.

The Oklahoma State Fair exhibit hall project is one of many recent project wins for Populous’ fairground and equestrian group, who is working currently on the WestWorld Equidome and Pepsi Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

With offices around the world, Populous is a global architecture firm that specializes in equestrian and fairground facilities, arenas, stadiums, ballparks and convention centers. The firm has completed work for more than 250 fairground clients and 150 equestrian clients.
