Populous Wins 2019 Australian Exporter of the Year

Populous has been awarded the highest honour in the Australian Government’s annual Export Awards, winning 2019 Exporter of the Year as well as the national Professional Services category.

Australia’s top exporters and investors came together at the 57th Australian Export Awards at Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday 3 December. It is the first time in the 57 year history of the National Awards that an architecture firm has won the Overall award.

Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Simon Birmingham congratulated Populous for taking out the top award of 2019.

“This is an outstanding story of a company that over two decades, through expanding into overseas markets, has transformed into a powerhouse within its industry and is a standout example of our growing services sector,” Minister Birmingham said.

Recent major projects in the Region include the National Speed Skating Oval for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Motera Cricket Stadium in Gujarat in India and Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.

Speaking after the ceremony, Managing Director for Populous in Asia Pacific, Paul Henry said Populous was grateful for the Government’s commitment to supporting the export of Australian professional services.

“The awards represent almost 20 years of working across the Asia Pacific region by our team of designers. Recognition and business success at this level doesn’t happen overnight. I am extremely proud of the team and thankful to the great clients we work with.”
