Ben Stacey

Ben Stacey is an Associate Principal and Architect at Populous with a strong foundation in sports architecture and a passion for designing venues that enhance both spectator experience and community engagement. He holds a Bachelor of Design (Architectural Studies) and a Master of Architecture from Queensland University of Technology, where he was awarded the Royal Australian Institute of Architects QIA Medallion in 2014.
After graduating, Ben relocated to London to pursue opportunities on large-scale international sports and arena projects. He gained valuable experience working on stadiums for the FIFA 2022 World Cup and venues for the Pan-American Games, where he was responsible for multiple design packages from early concept through to detailed construction documentation. His role also encompassed consultant coordination and client communication, giving him a strong grounding in the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects.
Ben then joined the Populous London team, contributing to a multitude of projects across Europe and the Middle East. During this time, he expanded his expertise in international stadium design and developed skills in balancing technical precision with creative problem solving.
Since returning to Australia, Ben has been based in the Brisbane studio, applying his international expertise to projects across the Asia Pacific region. His portfolio includes a range of stadiums throughout the Middle East, UK and Europe, Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong, Te Kaha Stadium in Christchurch, as well as Arena Projects throughout Asia and Australia. Following the announcement of Brisbane to host the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Ben has been involved with various strategic planning stages and reviews, to support the government in preparing for the Games. These projects highlight his ability to deliver innovative outcomes that are culturally relevant and strategically aligned with community needs.
Driven by his love of both sport, music and architecture, Ben is deeply interested in how well-designed venues can bring people together through shared experiences. His approach emphasises inclusivity, cultural resonance and design excellence, creating spaces that are memorable, functional and enduring.
