University of Texas at San Antonio Celebrates Topping Out of Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence

November 11, 2020

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) celebrated the topping out of the Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE), the University’s latest milestone in this multitiered project that will provide state-of-the-art training and recreational facilities to both student-athletes and the San Antonio community. UTSA, along with the Roadrunner Foundation, are committed to their work building an urban serving and community-engaged university, and the Populous-designed RACE facility will help fulfill that commitment.

In addition to providing a world-class recreational resource for the San Antonio community, the RACE facility will serve as the hub of UTSA Athletics, helping to attract the best Division 1 student-athletes.

“We’re honored to be involved with the RACE project, not only because it sets the course for the future of UTSA Athletics, but because it will also help enrich the San Antonio community,” explained Populous Associate Principal Austin Welsh.

Slated to open in Summer 2021, the center spans over 10 acres on the southwest corner of the UTSA main campus. The 94,773-SF facility features multiple practice fields, locker rooms, meeting rooms, an academic space, sports medicine and strength and conditioning centers, a student-athlete lounge, and office space for coaches and administrative staff.
