Paul is an Architect at Populous who acquired his Architecture qualification at Kingston University in London. Paul’s area of expertise is sports design, beginning with the first project Paul was responsible for, a stable complex for a racecourse in Scotland.

He has since focussed on the construction of large, high profile and complex projects. He has also participated on a number of competitions and bids for sports facilities and multi-use stadia across the UK utilising his in-depth knowledge of spectator, staff, player, stakeholder and brand requirements.

After joining Populous, Paul became part of the design team of the London 2012 Olympic stadium, and commenced work on the Stadium post Stage C report. Situated within the core team, his responsibilities included the design of several key components for the movement of spectators; stair, lifts and escalators. Additional responsibilities included 3D modeling and checking the design of the structure, M&E coordination, site inspections and the Health and Safety documentation process.

Upon completion of the main stadium, Paul kept within the sphere of Olympics as lead architect on London 2012’s largest competition venue outside of the Olympic Park. LOCOG’s overlay plan created five arenas in ExCeL exhibition halls, which held seven Olympic sports and six Paralympic sports. The work consisted of developing the designs of temporary accommodation for the sports and spectators, balancing the requirements of dozens of functional areas within the infrastructure of an existing exhibition hall.

He spent a brief period of time in Switzerland to pursue other stadia work in Morocco, and experienced different architectural processes, language and work culture.

Paul is currently working on a major UK stadium project. As lead architect on the superstructure, Paul interfaces with the wider design and construction team, ensuring the client’s vision is conveyed accurately in the final rendering of the built form.
